Hi, I’m Shelley! I love books, animals, children, art, yoga, and baked goods, but not always at the same time. I hold a BFA in Communication Design from the University of North Texas, an MFA in Illustration as Visual Essay from The School of Visual Arts, and an MFA in Writing for Children and Young Adults from the Vermont College of Fine Arts.

My greatest passion is writing and illustrating children’s books—it’s the best job in the world! I am a long-time member and volunteer for the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators, including a stint as regional advisor for the Austin, Texas chapter. I am a founder and member of the amazing female illustration collective, the Girllustrators.

I am an associate professor and the course leader for the MA Children’s Book Illustration program at Cambridge School of Art at Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge, England—check it out!
